Good morning neighbors,
It’s been a busy last few weeks. I addition to signing up to be your PCO again, I also signed up to run for Clallam County Charter Review Commission and to represent you at the Washington State Democratic Party Convention on June 23-25 in Bellevue.
As it turns out, both of these required a lot of time to take care of an amazing number of details, but I wanted to take a few minutes to let you know what’s happening.
Here are some highlights of upcoming events, news, and stuff I find interesting (keep reading for more info):
- Charter Review Commission
- “It Can’t Happen Here” – Saturday, June 15, 7-9PM & Sunday, June 16, 3-5PM at Sons of Norway Hall
- Meet Eric Pickens & Chris Reykdal Friday, May 31, 5-7PM at Sequim Prairie Grange
- Streamkeepers Ocean Climate Study Tuesday, June 4 or Wednesday June 5 8:30AM-3PM at Seven Cedars
- Election Observer Training
- Democrats Lunch Asian Buffet, Tuesday June 18 at Noon
Charter Review Commission: Clallam County has a charter, which can be amended every 4 years – and this is the year. I am now running to serve on this commission. I’m hoping I can count on your support. If you’d like to find out more, the League of Women Voters has a nice write-up here.
“It Can’t Happen Here”, Saturday, June 15, 7-9PM & Sunday, June 16, 3-5PM at Sons of Norway Hall: Several members of the Clallam County Democrats have been practicing their lines for an animated reading of Sinclair Lewis’ 1935 play about the fragility of our democracy. I’ve attached the flier to this email. Tickets are only $25 and you can reserve yours by calling 360-461-6803 or emailing chdem24@gmail.com.
Meet Eric Pickens & Chris Reykdal Friday, May 31, 5-7PM at Sequim Prairie Grange: Eric Pickens is the only candidate for State House District 24 Position 1 who supports protecting the legacy forests and decoupling their harvest from taxing-district revenues. Schools Superintendent Chris Reykdal has also spoken up in support of protecting these forests and decoupling the revenues. State Senate candidate Mike Chapman is helping to host the event. Streamkeepers Ocean Climate Study Tuesday, June 4 or Wednesday June 5 8:30AM-3PM at Seven Cedars: This is a unique opportunity to learn about proposed ocean-based technologies to address climate change. You have two choices on when to go and the best part is that they feed you breakfast and lunch and pay you $200 to boot!!! To find out more and sign up, send an email to Sara Nawaz at snawaz@american.edu.
Election Observer Training: The League of Women Voters will be offering multiple sessions in late June to learn how to be an election observer. I have done this in the past and it was not only fascinating to watch the vote counting process, it was amazingly reassuring to see how well run and secure our system is. Trainings will be held at the Clallam County Courthouse on June 24 at 2-4PM & June 26 at 9-11AM and 2-4PM. Click here for more info and scroll down on the calendar list to see these events.
Democrats Lunch Asian Buffet, Tuesday June 18th at Noon: On the third Tuesday of each month, local Democrats get together at Asian Buffet, 1940 E 1st St, 98362 to enjoy some good food and nice conversations in a casual atmosphere. This is a great way to get to know your like-minded neighbors. Lunch costs about $15 and you don’t need a reservation. Just come on down at noon and we’re in the group area behind the cash registers.
As always, I hope you have found this helpful. Please let me know what I can do to improve this email, join me at some of these events, and please sign up to continue getting these emails.
Thank you very much,
Paul Kolesnikoff
