Hello neighbors,
I’d like to thank everyone who showed up to help with the 3rd St. Trail. We had a great group of people that worked for about 3 hours and the trail looks great!
The ditches to get the water off the trail are as good as I have ever seen them and the rut down the middle is mostly filled in!

THIS WEEK: Candidate Filing Week – May 6-10: If you’d like to run for election to any office, you must file by close of business this Friday. You can file in person at the county courthouse, on line, or by mail. All the information is at this link:
https://www.clallamcountywa.gov/1692/Candidate-Filing-Information
I will be running to be your PCO again this year, and for the Charter Review Commission for District 3.
Charter Review Commission: Clallam County has a charter, which can be amended every 4 years – and this is the year. Any citizen of Clallam County can run to be elected to the Charter Review Commission(CRC). The best part is that you only serve for one year to help update the county charter. As a resident of PA108 Precinct, you are in County District 3. Please consider running for this commission by filing at this link before this Friday.
Dream Playground Rebuild – May 15-19:* As most of us know, the Dream Playground burned down last December and the community has really come together to rebuild. The rebuild is scheduled for May 15-19. They need tools and workers. If you’d like to help, go to https://www.padreamplayground.org
My friend Steve Hargis is collecting tools for the rebuild. If you can spare a tool for the build, here is Steve’s link on Nextdoor
Dollar General Store meeting at Fairmount Diner May 9th at 6PM: Dollar General has made a proposal to build a store roughly across Hwy 101 from the Fairmount Diner. There is a Neighborhood Meeting on Thursday, May 9th 6 PM at the Fairmount Diner to discuss the proposed zoning variance. Won Choi is a neighbor organizing on this issue. He may be reached at (615)423-1796. If you have any questions, come to the Thursday night meeting, call Won, and/or write the City planning staff at ced@cityofpa.us. Emails are best sent ASAP, as Planning will be making a recommendation on Friday, May 10. There will also be a PA Hearing Examiner Public hearing at PA Council Chambers on Thursday, May 16th at 9:00 AM.
Meet Eric Pickens Sunday, May 19, 3-5PM at Sons of Norway Hall: Eric Pickens is running to fill the State House of Representatives seat that Mike Chapman is vacating to run for State Senate. I have been fortunate to talk with Eric multiple times and have been quite impressed by him. Please come meet Eric to decide for yourself. I will be there also.
Nuclear Power Movie Monday May 13, 6:30PM: I have seen a big push recently to offer nuclear power as a solution to the climate crisis. Personally, I’m not convinced that we won’t be trading one poison for another. That said, we should have the discussion. Meaningful Movies PT is presenting a movie called Nuclear Now! by Oliver Stone next Monday night at 6:30PM on Zoom. Click here for the movie description and trailer, and Click here to join the zoom link
Covenant of the Salmon People movie Tuesday May 14, 6:30PM: This is a free movie about the effects of the Snake River Dams on the salmon and the local Native Americans that depend on those salmon. While the movie can be streamed any time between now and next Tuesday, the Tuesday May 14 event will feature a panel discussion. Click Here for the description and trailer, and to register via Eventbrite.
Wake Up To Politics email: Almost every weekday I am treated to a wonderful email by Gabe Fleisher called Wake Up To Politics. When I first started getting Gabe’s email, he was in middle school, where he wrote up the day’s news in a nice email before heading off to school. He is in college now and continues putting out a great email almost every weekday morning. He always has a deep dive into a current topic or two, and then gives that day’s schedule for both houses of congress, the President, Vice President, and the Supreme Court. I am always amazed by his analysis of current events while looking back through a historical lens that can put today’s events as the latest in a string of events that goes back 100 years or more. Click here to see his recent emails and see if you’d like to sign up.
Democrats Lunch Asian Buffet, Tuesday May 21 Noon: On the third Tuesday of each month, local Democrats get together at Asian Buffet 1940 E 1st St, 98362 to enjoy some good food, and nice conversations in a casual atmosphere. This is a great way to get to know your like minded neighbors. Lunch costs about $15 and you don’t need a reservation. Just come on down at noon and we’re in the group area behind the cash registers.
As always, I hope you have found this helpful. Please let me know what I can do to improve this email, join me at some of these events, and please sign up to continue getting these emails.
Thank you very much,
Paul Kolesnikoff
